Production on Murdered on the Fourth of July is well underway. Over the last four years, we have conducted extensive research, conducted more than two dozen background interviews with friends, family and experts, gathered a growing collection of photos, videos and artifacts, filmed 20 on-camera interviews, captured new footage and B-roll, and have shared a number of in-progress clips and teasers online.
To take this project fully into post-production and over the finish line, it will take a community of supporters, whether in the form of an investment, a donation, a contribution of materials, or even just an encouraging post on social media.
Donations
Murdered on the Fourth of July is a fiscally sponsored project of the International Documentary Association (IDA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization. Contributions in support of Murdered on the Fourth of July are payable to IDA and are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Your donations will directly support the production of the film.
We can also accept donations in the form of checks, wire transfers, stocks and securities, and in-kind services. If you are interested in contributing via any of these methods, please contact us directly.
Visual Materials
We are actively seeking videos and photos (and other ephemera) related to the subjects of the film. If you or someone you know has original (tapes, reels, photographs, negatives, etc.) materials featuring the following subjects, please contact us with details:
- Recordings of television news broadcasts (local or national) about the murders, the trials, or any other related news (especially from 1998)
- Las Vegas Anti-Racist Action or Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice events, activities, fliers, newsletters, etc. from the mid-to-late 1990s
- Photos or videos of Lin “Spit” Newborn performing his poetry (such as at Cafe Espresso Roma)
- Original text (handwritten or replicated, printed in ‘zines, etc.) of Spit’s poetry
- Photos or videos of Las Vegas shows or events from the 1980s through the late 1990s relevant to the film’s subject matter – particularly desert punk shows
